Data Management
In the 21st century, the human genome has been mapped which allow researchers to integrate the extensive characterization from high throughput genotype technologies with demographic and lifestyle data collected via modern communication technologies. The technical prerequisites now exist for merging these cascades of molecular genetic information not only in national health registers but also to clinical data. This provides researcher with completely new opportunities to clarify the complex interaction between genes and environment in the development of human disease.
The SeRC Data Management community will conduct research in the field of how the vast information generated in various fields can be stored with proper care for accessibility, reliability, privacy, security, and confidentiality. Important components are standards and ontologies for representing information in interoperable formats, and solutions to integrate data and information distributed over networks and available via different technological solutions.
SeRC Data Management is also a key partner in the project e-Science for Cancer Prevention and Cure (eCPC), a flagship project at SeRC, and leading the workpackages WP1: eCPC platform and infrastructure development, and WP2: Managing sensitive information in distributed environments.
